Wednesday, August 5, saw the traditional charity run take place at Na Špici Park—an event that wasn’t about finishing times, but about the joy of exercise and helping others. Despite the high temperatures, more than three hundred runners, including basketball and soccer players from Pardubice, took part in both the family and longer courses. Together, they supported seven-year-old Matyáš, whose family received 80,000 crowns through the Foxconn Run to help cover the costs of necessary care and his continued development.

The main area of the Sports Park was already bustling before the start, as Pardubice basketball and soccer players were signing autographs for visitors. Also on display were the runner-up trophy from the top basketball league and the championship trophy from the hockey Extraliga—both trophies from the past season belong to Pardubice.

All Foxconn Run participants then picked up a sports T-shirt during registration, took part in a group warm-up, and headed to the starting line, where they met Matyášek and his family. “Every year, we choose someone who needs help due to misfortune. This time, our run supported seven-year-old Matyášek, who is battling a diagnosis of irreversible brain damage, symptoms of autism, central muscular hypotonia, and epileptic encephalopathy. We’re glad that we can help him together while also providing an enjoyable experience for all race participants,” says Daniel Pavlis, Head of PR and Communications at Foxconn.

This year’s donations totaled 80,000 crowns, as Foxconn—the Sports Park’s general partner—contributed a 50,000-crown check, and Explosia (20,000) and CityZen (10,000) also pitched in. “We’re really glad they joined us in this effort, and thanks to that, the final amount went even higher.” We’d also like to thank everyone who signed up for the run and supported this good cause. We have great respect for those who lined up at the starting line and completed the run despite the tropical temperatures,” said Radka Svobodová, Foxconn’s Compliance, PR, and Communications Manager.

The Foxconn Run offered two routes—a shorter family route (1.2 km) and a longer one for experienced runners (4.5 km). A total of 350 participants completed the races, which is a great number given the challenging conditions. “We knew the record for the number of participants wouldn’t be broken this time, but what’s important is that those who ran enjoyed the event and that we were once again able to contribute to a good cause,” says Daniela Pavlise, who also completed the run alongside other Foxconn employees. All participants received a medal, a drink, and an apple at the finish line. “We handed out apples in true style, because Foxconn is a major partner of Apple,” explains Radka Svobodová.

Foxconn Czech Republic is a long-standing general partner of the Pardubice Sports Park and even has its own Foxconn Zone at Na Špici Park. There, visitors can play basketball, jump around in an inflatable castle, or take a photo in a unique photo booth. Company employees also receive an icy treat in the form of a popsicle, which is definitely welcome given the weather that has accompanied this event so far this year.
